The San Angelo Area Foundation announces its 2007 discretionary grant awards

James Carter, Board Chairman of the San Angelo Area Foundation, announced $133,000 in grants today towards the following eleven organizations and causes.

  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of the Concho Valley, assistance for flooring and security $25,500

  • Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center, assistance towards the purchase of new furnishings for the new Green Houses $30,000

  • Concho Valley Council of the Boys Scouts of America, assistance towards purchasing Council transportation $11,000

  • Fort Concho, help with public address system and two way radios $5,000

  • Junior Achievement, help with curriculum for Economics for Success $2,500

  • Meals for the Elderly, assistance towards construction of additional storage for the Pet Food Project $20,000

  • Meet in the Middle, assistance towards implementation of new curriculum “Rollercoasters” to support court ordered visitation programs $10,000

  • San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, assistance with funding the Nation Ceramics Competition to be held in 2008 $5,000

  • San Angelo Symphony, assistance with funding a Traveling Trunk project and associated curriculum for area schools $4,000

  • Sterling County Meals on Wheels, assistance with funding for meals program in Sterling County $5,000

  • Tom Green County - Beacon to the Future, New Library Capital Project $15,000

The San Angelo Area Foundation manages over 150 charitable funds totaling more than $30 million dollars in assets. Some of the grants have been made possible through donor advised funds managed by the Foundation, and other funds allow the board of the Foundation full discretion of grant making opportunities.

Established in 2002, the San Angelo Area Foundation has granted over $2 million dollars in grants and scholarships to over 80 organizations and 350 students, since inception.
