The San Angelo Area Foundation held its 3rd Annual Scholarship Luncheon honoring area youth with 89 scholarship awards to 85 recipients totaling $82,800 from 33 different funds managed under the auspices of the San Angelo Area Foundation.

Steve Stephens, a long time San Angelo philanthropist was the keynote speaker, encouraging the young people in their academic pursuits.

The San Angelo Area Foundation was created in 2002 and since its inception has increased the scholarship grants awarded each year. Including this year’s awards, the Foundation has awarded more than 170 scholarships in just three years, totaling in excess of $150,000.

Almost all of the scholarship funds at the Foundation are endowed, meaning they will continue to award scholarship every year, from now own. Scholarship applications are taken each year from January through March 1st and are awarded based on a variety of qualifications unique to each scholarship fund.
