The San Angelo Area Foundation recognized these fine young men and women who were able to attend the Foundation’s 3rd Annual Scholarship Luncheon in May. Thanks to the generosity of good people like you, area youth received more than $113,000 in scholarship grants this year.
The San Angelo Area Foundation awarded more than 100 scholarships to 90 recipients in 2006. The total value of the scholarships was more than $113,000.
Students, parents, and donors enjoyed a wonderful luncheon underwritten by the Foundation at the West Texas Training Center in May. Steve Stephens, a long time San Angelo philanthropist, was the keynote speaker. He reminisced about his academic career and encouraged the young people in their academic pursuits.
Since its inception, the Foundation has increased scholarship grants awarded each year. Including the 2006 awards, in just three years the Foundation has awarded more than 180 scholarships with a total value in excess of $175,000. As of 2006, the Foundation manages 44 different scholarship funds.
Almost all of the scholarship funds at the Foundation are endowed, meaning they will continue to award scholarships in perpetuity. Scholarship applications are taken each year from January through March 1st and are awarded based on a variety of qualifications unique to each scholarship fund. Numerous sub-committees select recipients based on the qualifications outlined by each scholarship fund.
