Since its inception, the Foundation has been blessed with hundreds of donations. In this profile, the Foundation desires to highlight one of its donors.
Amy and Mark were married in June of 1954 both having attended The University of Texas. Amy graduated with a degree in Home Economics and Mark graduated with business and law degrees and then served his country as a Judge Advocate in the Air Force. (Mark is still a FAA licensed, instrument rated pilot for multi-engine airplanes).
Amys past and current community service includes serving as President of the Junior League of San Angelo and service on the boards of Fort Concho Museum, San Angelo Symphony, and San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council.
We are indeed thankful for the many blessings that have come our way
which make it possible for us to make this gift
- John Mark McLaughlin
Marks past and current service includes Assistant Attorney General of Texas, State Bar of Texas Vice-President, President of the University of Texas Law School Foundation, past President of the Mohair Council of America, and past President of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
Mark and Amy have been involved with many volunteer organizations in the past, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Chamber of Commerce of San Angelo, the San Angelo Health Foundation, the San Angelo Symphony, and the San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council, just to name a few. Mark still practices law, manages oil & gas and ranching interests and is Chairman of the Board of Texas State Bank.
Amy and Mark are proud University of Texas alumni and have both served in numerous capacities to benefit their alma mater. All three of their children have graduated with two degrees (each) from The University of Texas.
Daughter Laure graduated with a masters degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, son Brian graduated with a law degree from The University of Texas Law School and practices law, and son Matthew graduated with a masters degree from The University of Texas Graduate School of Business and is an energy consultant. Needless to say, burnt orange runs deep in the family blood.

Mark was named San Angelo Citizen of the Year in 1990, received the Distinguished Citizen Award, Concho Valley CouncilBoy Scouts of America in 1993, and accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award from The University of Texas Law School Alumni Association in 2002.
Mark and Amy have always been wonderful philanthropists and when the opportunity came available to donate appreciated stock in a closely held company, the benefits of the San Angelo Area Foundation made their decision easy. They were able to create a donor advised fund while receiving favorable tax deductions. The fund acts similar to having a private foundation, with minimal operational expenses and appropriate fiduciary oversight.
The McLaughlins love supporting their community. Their gift allows them to be involved in the grant making process, and they have arranged for their children to be involved as well.
