Special Projects Funds

Special Projects funds typically are a short term project which would benefit the greater community. The San Angelo Area Foundation can act as the fiduciary facilitator of these types of projects, while offering tax deductible advantages to potential donors. For more information about establishing a special project fund, contact the Foundation office.

THE BUFFALO SCULPTURE PROJECT
The Buffalo Sculpture, depicting a buffalo bull, cow, and calf, is located between the pavilions at El Paseo in San Angelo and was crafted out of coreten steel by local artist Richard Salmon. The funding for this project came from a cross section of individuals and businesses from the San Angelo area. This special piece, entitled “Rebirth of an Old Friend,” was dedicated to the lifetime achievements of San Angelo’s famed author and favorite son, Elmer Kelton. Additional funds were collected and were placed in a new fund named the Elmer Kelton Parks Endowment Fund to help maintain this sculpture and city parks.

ELEGANT LILY PROJECT
This project conceived by Dr. Ralph Chase is a fund to which citizens have donated monies to benefit the Water Lily Garden located in Civic League Park in San Angelo. The goal of this fund is to build additional ponds to house the Nymphaea elegans water lily first seen locally by Franciscan monks in 1629 in this area. Cared for by horticulturist Ken Landon, the lily collection is the most extensive in the world and draws people from across the globe.
